It is reported that the lap time of the Tesla Model S Plaid is 7 minutes 25 seconds 231 milliseconds, second only to supercars such as the Ferrari Enzo and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. In August last year, Porsche Taycan Turbo S broke the record of fastest lap time for electric cars set by Tesla Model S Plaid a year ago with a time of 7 minutes and 33 seconds. Now, Tesla has regained this honor.
The reason why Tesla Model S Plaid was able to greatly improve his performance on the Nurburgring track, in addition to the blessing of the Track Pack suite, there is another detail worth paying attention to, that is the steering wheel. From the whole video released by Tesla, we can see that the record-setting Tesla Model S Plaid did not use the original Yoke steering wheel, but replaced it with a traditional round steering wheel. This may imply that Tesla admits that the circular steering wheel is more suitable and safer than the Yoke steering wheel when driving on the track.
The Track Pack kit is an option provided by Tesla for Model S Plaid, including aluminum forged Zero-G wheels, Goodyear Supercar 3R tires suitable for track use, carbon ceramic brake kit (including carbon silicide brake discs, integrated forging calipers, high performance brake pads and track brake fluid). In addition, the Track Pack kit can unlock the Model S Plaid's 200mph top speed.
