CTOnews.com, June 5 (Xinhua) Samsung is building a smartphone manufacturing plant in Egypt, according to a new report.

According to the Arabian Financial Network, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt released on June 2 that Samsung Electronics Egypt will build a new mobile phone factory covering an area of 6000 square meters in Beni Suef, a city in northern Egypt.

It is reported that the new plant will provide about 1400 direct and indirect jobs, especially in Upper Egypt, where construction of the project is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

When the factory goes into production, the latest Samsung Galaxy phones will be produced locally in the new factory to meet Samsung's needs in the Egyptian market.

Reported that the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Samsung Egypt Chairman Jun Su Jung and his accompanying delegation held talks to reach a consensus on the establishment of a new Samsung factory in Egypt.

However, CTOnews.com believes that given the small size of the factory, the phones made here are unlikely to be exported to other markets around the world. Samsung's largest smartphone manufacturing plant is still in Vietnam, and Samsung has recently expanded its manufacturing facilities in India.
