Apple announces macOS Sonoma: enhanced widgets, introduction of game mode, improved videoconferencing

Thanks to the CTOnews.com netizen Mr. Air, Xiao Zhanche's clue delivery! CTOnews.com June 6, Apple officially announced the name of the next version of macOS Sonoma at today's WWDC 2023 developer conference. In line with Apple's practice over the past few years, developer beta and public beta versions are expected to be released in the next few weeks and will be officially released this fall.

The biggest highlights of the new version of macOS Sonoma are its support for desktop widgets and the ability to customize wallpaper as a screensaver. CTOnews.com synthesizes foreign media reports and summarizes the relevant information as follows:

After the widget user opens the window, the widget fades into the background. In addition, Mac and iPhone can access widgets from iPhone if they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Widgets are also interactive, and Apple's official demo shows how to control connected vehicles from desktop widgets.

Game Mode Apple has also introduced a new Game Mode for Mac devices. Apple says the mode applies to all games on Mac platforms, reducing AirPods audio latency and doubling the Bluetooth sampling rate after connecting the Xbox or PlayStation handle.

In its opening speech, Apple also invited Hideo Kojima to confirm in the live broadcast that the edited version of "death stranded Director" will be released to the macOS platform.

Improved video conferencing Apple has further improved the effectiveness of video conferencing by using AR special effects in meetings. The webcam can recognize some of the user's gestures and trigger certain effects, such as a thumbs up, which can trigger fireworks explosions.
