According to reports, the Shanshan high-speed railway, which starts from the Shanwei Station of the existing Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, is the first high-speed rail project in Guangdong Province to adopt the EPC model to build a speed of 350km / h.

CTOnews.com inquiry found that the Shantou Railway starts from Shantou Station in Shantou City in the east, passes through Huilai County of Jieyang City and Lufeng City and Haifeng County of Shanwei City, introduces Shanwei Station of Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, and runs directly to Guangzhou with Guangzhou-Shantou Railway.

According to the construction plan, the high-speed railway will have seven stations in Shantou, Shantou South, Chaonan, Huilai, Lufengdong, Lufengnan and Shanwei. The length of the new main line is 162.368 km, including 35 bridges (113.691 km) and 13 tunnels (32.404 km). The bridge-tunnel ratio is 89.77%. It is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in September 2023.

According to reports, the Shantou-Shantou high-speed railway is an important part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network. The track laying interval is from Shanwei Station to Shantou South Station, with a double track of 295 km.
