Employees who have approved telecommuting may be reassessed if the company believes that "business needs, roles, teams, structures, or locations" have changed significantly, according to another internal document. In the United States, Google will regularly use access card data to check employees' compliance with attendance policies and is currently reviewing local requirements in other countries. If the employee does not comply with the policy for a long time, the human resources department will communicate with the "next step". Google relaxed its policy requirements after strong opposition to its 2021 return to the office policy and said it expected 20 per cent of its employees to telecommute, according to CTOnews.com.
