Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Daniel Wu in South China, rain and snow for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, June 10 (Xinhua)-- Apple's new Mac Studio and Mac Pro are equipped with the latest M2 Ultra chip, which has been launched on the Geekbench 5 running platform to demonstrate its single-core and multi-core performance compared to M1 Ultra chips. However, because the test does not use the latest version of Geekbench 6, there may be some deviations in these data.

Test data show that Mac Studio computers equipped with 24-core M2 Ultra chips can provide very strong single-core and multi-core performance. In terms of multi-core performance, this chip is 18% faster than its predecessor M1 Ultra chip, slightly higher than Intel's 24-core Core i9-13900K processor, and has a greater advantage over AMD's 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X processor.

It is worth noting that Apple has not changed its manufacturing process between M1 Ultra and M2 Ultra. It still uses TSMC's 5nm process, but still has a good improvement in multi-core performance. Although it is not clear why the test did not use Geekbench 6 to squeeze the performance of the 24-core M2 Ultra chip, YouTube video blogger Vadim Yuryev shared some multicore performance data based on his own calculations on Twitter. According to him, since the M1 Ultra chip already has a multicore score of 17551 in Geekbench 6, he thinks the M2 Ultra chip will score 20710 in the same test, which is based on the 18% multicore score gap in Geekbench 5.

CTOnews.com noted that the Mac Studio computers used in the test were equipped with up to 192GB of unified memory, but it was unlikely that so much memory led to a significant increase in multicore scores. In addition, the highest clock rate of this chip is 3.68GHz, while the M1 Ultra chip is 3.22GHz, and the latter can only support up to 20 CPU cores.
