TSMC is exploring the construction of a second semiconductor factory in Kumamoto prefecture, and Japan has promised to make efforts to ensure a subsidized budget.

Reported that TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin said on June 6 that priority would be given to setting up a second semiconductor factory in Kumamoto Prefecture. However, Liu Deyin believes that the subsidy provided by the Japanese government has not yet been determined, and hopes that the Japanese side will provide strong support. In response to TSMC's concerns, Japanese Economic Minister Nishimura responded that after a detailed review of the content and amount of subsidies, efforts will be made to ensure the necessary subsidy budget.

According to CTOnews.com information, the Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry of Japan has provided subsidies of up to 476 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 24.371 billion yuan) for the semiconductor plant built by TSMC, Sony Group and Denso in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, which accounts for more than half of the total investment of 800 billion yen (currently about 40.96 billion yuan) in the factory.

Earlier, the Nikkei News quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that TSMC's total investment in building a second chip manufacturing plant in southwestern Kumamoto Prefecture would exceed 1 trillion yen (currently about 51.2 billion yuan). The plant is expected to introduce advanced 5nm technology and will be completed in the late 1920s.
