Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 12, Debian is one of the oldest GNU / Linux distributions. The operating system focuses on stability and does not pursue high-speed iteration, so a series of new features will be unveiled long before the new version is released. The current Debian project has announced that it will bring RISC-V 64-bit support in the future Debian 13 "Trixie".
In an update shared by the Debian release team a few days ago, Debian developer Jonathan Wiltshire revealed the current situation of Debian under the RISC-V architecture: "although RISC-V 64-bit migration has made good progress before, it has not been actually installed in Debian 12. In the future, this feature is expected to be further improved in Debian 13, followed by official RISC-V support."
▲ source Debian developer Jonathan WiltshireCTOnews.com has learned that Debian 12 now supports nine architectures: AMD64, AArch64, ARMEL, ARMHF, i386, MIPS, 64-bit MIPS, POWER and IBM System Z, among which there is no officially ported RISC-V 64-bit architecture.
The new architecture identification of Debian 13 "Trixie" needs to be carried out later in the Debian Trixie cycle, and this work is expected to begin in a year and a half to two years later, so it will take a long time for the final RISC-V 64-bit architecture to be implemented.
RISC-V is an emerging open source instruction set architecture, which has shipped more than 10 billion cores and is mainly active in low-power embedded devices with low performance. The RISC-V instruction set can be "freely used for any purpose", and anyone is free to design, manufacture and sell RISC-V chips and software.
