CTOnews.com, June 13 (Xinhua)-- NASA (NASA) announced this week that it will launch a Psyche rocket to the Spirit Star (16 Psyche) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida between October 5 and 25 to visit the $1000 trillion "golden asteroid."

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) was scheduled to launch the mission in August 2022, but the project was delayed due to some problems. JPL officials said this week that two key issues had been addressed, so the exploration task was on the agenda.

"the Independent Review Board is very satisfied with the results achieved by the JPL organization and the California Institute of Technology, recognizing the leadership of the JPL director and project leadership as' world-class'," JPL wrote in a report.

CTOnews.com note: the spirit star is a huge asteroid and probably the largest M-type asteroid, with an estimated mass of 0.6% of all asteroid belt objects. It was discovered by Italian astronomer Annibalde Gasparis on March 17, 1852, the fifth asteroid he discovered and later named after the psyche in Greek mythology. Astronomers gave the first 15 asteroids a sketched astronomical symbol.
