Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, June 14 (Xinhua)-- TheElec,LG Display is planning to develop a hybrid OLED panel to supply to car customers. In addition, LG Display and Samsung Display are also developing hybrid OLED panels for Apple, which will be used in the iPad in the future.

It is reported that this new hybrid OLED panel will use both glass substrate and thin film packaging (TFE), while these technologies have been used in rigid OLED panels and flexible OLED panels in the past. In addition, the hybrid OLED panel will use a polyimide substrate instead of glass, so it is cheaper to manufacture.

According to sources, the first customer of LG Display's new hybrid OLED panel is likely to be an European carmaker. So far, the South Korean display panel maker has only supplied polyimide OLED panels to its car customers.

CTOnews.com query found that LG Display demonstrated its hybrid OLED panel technology, Advanced Thin OLED, during this year's CES. It is said that the glass substrate is 20% thinner than the competitive product.
