CTOnews.com June 15 news, the Japanese Federation of Music Writers' groups (FCA) today posted on its website their views on the use of copyright in AI. "We ask the government to immediately establish a forum to discuss generative AI, allowing creators to participate in the discussion as stakeholders," the association said in a public statement.

The statement also pointed out that with the rapid development of generative AI, it is likely to have adverse consequences if the protection of creators' rights is continuously ignored. Therefore, the government should "review the rights limitations in the current copyright law and strive to ensure that rulemaking is coordinated with the development of AI technology without prejudice to the rights of the creators."

FCA proposes to create a wide range of forums to discuss this issue, and requires creators of all types of works to participate as stakeholders. FCA will negotiate solutions to related problems with creators in art, film, television, animation and other fields.

FCA is the only federation of music writers' associations in Japan, consisting of 13 groups, including the all-Japan Music Writers Association and the Japan Poets Union. The organization was founded in 1986 and has so far joined more than 3000 music writers.

In particular, the proposal calls on the industry and the government to review the operation of copyright law and formulate rules to establish "voice portrait rights".
