Version 1.1.1 was originally released in September 2018, and as the official 5-year update and maintenance for each long-supported version, the official OpenSSL blog recently issued a warning that support for OpenSSL 1.1.1 will end in September 2023, urging users to upgrade.

The current latest version of OpenSSL 3.1 will be officially supported by March 14, 2025, while the long-term version of OpenSSL 3.0 will have a life cycle up to September 7, 2026.

It is reported that OpenSSL 3.0 has many major changes compared to the previous version, and is not fully compatible with the previous version. 3.X changes over older versions include the addition of Federal Information processing Standards (FIPS), the use of Apache License 2.0 open source licenses, and the abandonment of many older API.

CTOnews.com notes that officials say that most software that uses OpenSSL 1.1.1 only needs to be recompiled to work properly, but developers will see many compilation warnings that have been deprecated with API. Before the end of the OpenSSL 1.1.1 life cycle, users need to take the necessary action to ensure official support and security.
