Despite massive layoffs, the survey shows that Google and Meta are still among the largest companies with the highest salaries in 2022.

CTOnews.com, June 20, according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal, Alphabet (the parent company of Google) and Meta (formerly Facebook) are the two tech giants that pay their employees the highest in 2022, ranking third and second, respectively. Of this, Meta provides employees with a median salary of nearly $300000 (currently about 2.148 million yuan), while the median salary of Alphabet is $280000 (currently about 2.005 million yuan).

At the top of the list is Vici Properties, a real estate investment trust with 22 employees, with a median annual salary of $415000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 2.971 million yuan). Vici Properties owns several casinos in the United States, but its figures do not include the salaries of hourly workers in its properties.

In 2022, a year full of layoffs and shrinking employee benefits, Alphabet and Meta laid off about 33000 employees. Google's median employee salary also fell to third place from first place in 2021. Overall, however, the median salary in 2022 did not decline "significantly" compared with 2021.

The Wall Street Journal also calculated the ratio of the pay of chief executives (CEO) of companies in the Sip500 index to the company's average by dividing the annual compensation of CEO (obtained from SEC filings) by the median compensation. It turned out that Alphabet CEO Sandal Pichai topped the list with a salary package of $226 million, 808 times the company's median salary. Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Meta, earns $28 million, 91 times the company's median salary. The figure for Edward Pitonac, CEO of Vici Properties, is 28, down sharply from 273 in 2021.

While the data analyze the pay of median employees, the Wall Street Journal points out that while companies must disclose the total compensation offered to global median employees, "they have some freedom in how to determine their median employees."
