CTOnews.com, June 21 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Electronic Arts (EA) today announced a major internal change to split its business into two separate organizations: EA Sports and EA Games, which changed its name to EA Entertainment.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson wrote on the company's website that the restructuring aims to "give our studio heads more creative ownership and financial responsibility so that they can make faster and more insightful decisions on development and listing strategies." "these initiatives will accelerate our business, drive growth, and bring long-term value to our employees, players and communities," he said.

Laura Miller has been appointed president of the newly established EA entertainment, technology and central development division, and its game leadership team structure is basically the same as before. Vince Zampera will continue to be in charge of games such as Apex Hero, Star Wars and Battlefield, while Samantha Ryan will be in charge of lifestyle series and stand-alone masterpieces. Jeff Karp continues to lead EA Entertainment's mobile team.

In the newly spun-off EA Sports Division, Cam Weber was appointed President, whose responsibilities include "leading types of EA sports experience and our entire racing portfolio". David Tinson was appointed to lead the EA experience team, while Chris Bruzo, the former chief experience officer, retired. Chris Sue, the chief financial officer, also left and was replaced by Stuart Canfield.

Wilson, who remains chief executive of EA, said the new leadership team would work with their studios "in the coming months" to implement the company's newly announced organizational changes.

CTOnews.com noted that today's news was the latest in a series of restructuring measures by EA after the company laid off about 6 per cent of its staff in March. In June, it was reported that another round of layoffs occurred, affecting 2/3 employees of Need for Speed: unlimited studio Firemonkeys.
