AMD announces plans to invest $135 million to expand its business in Ireland

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan cut the clue delivery! CTOnews.com AMD today announced plans to invest $135 million over four years to expand its operations in Ireland.

AMD said that prior to its acquisition by AMD in 2022, Xilinx had partnered with IDA Ireland several times to drive semiconductor innovation in Ireland. In 2017, Xilinx announced a $40 million investment to expand its research, development and engineering operations and hire more than 100 new, skilled employees.

Originally established in 1994, the Ireland site was Xilinx's first dedicated site outside the United States, focusing on manufacturing, operations support, engineering and management services. Since acquiring Xilinx, Ireland is now one of AMD's largest research and development sites in Europe.

Ruth Cotter, AMD senior vice president of marketing, said: "From cloud and personal computers to communications and smart endpoints, AMD's high-performance and adaptive computing solutions play an increasing role in shaping the future of today's computing. Ireland has been Europe's flagship R & D centre for adaptive computing solutions for nearly three decades, with a strong and skilled workforce. By investing further and expanding our presence in Dublin and Cork, we are committed to continuing to drive innovation in Ireland and support the European semiconductor ecosystem. With this investment, our R & D team in Ireland will design innovative high-performance and adaptive compute engines to accelerate the development of data centers, networks, 6G communications and embedded solutions, while leading the way in artificial intelligence.
