CTOnews.com June 22 news, Microsoft from 2018-19 began to develop dark mode or dark theme for Edge browser. In June 2019, the company began testing some elements on the Canary preview channel, and about four months later rolled out a feature that allowed users to enable Dark Mode. Fast forward to 2022, and an update to the Edge Dev channel makes the switch from dark to light themes and vice versa smoother. Later that year, Microsoft added a dark theme to the right-click menu in Windows mode.

Microsoft isn't stopping there, and the company will soon add a darker dark theme option to Edge. Leopeva64 revealed on Twitter that Microsoft is now testing a new dark theme for the Canary channel, Leopeva wrote: "In Edge Canary, Microsoft is testing an all-black background for tabs, toolbars, favorites, vertical tabs and sidebars. Leopeva also provides screenshots of the new theme, and Dev and Beta channels still retain the current Dark theme.

CTOnews.com Note: Of the two images, the bottom is a screenshot of the Canary channel, and the top is a screenshot of the Dev and Beta channels. Perhaps Microsoft will provide both options for users who prefer darker tones, but this is still speculation. The Edge development team may also replace the current dark theme with the upcoming darker dark theme entirely.

If you want to enable the current Dark theme in Edge, follow these steps:

Click Settings and More (Alt+F)

select Settings

Select Appearance from the Settings list

Under Customize Browser> Overall Appearance> Themes, use the drop-down list to select Dark
