NFC specification roadmap announced: wireless charging increased to 3W, contact range extended to 30mm
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, June 24 (Xinhua) in the future, when consumers use mobile payment or swipe their mobile phones to enter the subway, the mobile phone will no longer actually touch the NFC terminal. The NFC Forum, the drafting body of the standard, recently announced a roadmap up to 2028.
NFC Forum stated that one of the main priorities of NFC technology is to increase the scope of use. Two NFC-enabled devices will only work within a range of 5mm, while the new version plans to expand 4-6 times to a range of 30mm (1.18in).
A wider range means reducing the accuracy requirements of NFC antennas, accelerating mobile payments and reducing transaction failures. The agency also plans to increase the current NFC wireless charging specification from 1 watt to 3 watts.
CTOnews.com also learned from the report that another improvement in the NFC roadmap is that one interaction allows multiple operations to support point-to-point money transfer, dependency identification, full-trip ticketing, and so on.
These plans are currently at different stages of development, and some have gone further than others. The forum has no clear timetable for its debut, but it says its planned timetable spans two to five years.
