CTOnews.com, June 24, according to the Economic Daily, TSMC's wafer plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, has not yet been put into mass production, but its capacity has been fully booked.

▲ Touyuan: TSMC reported that TSMC has won a large order from Honda, the seventh largest carmaker in the world, and this is the first time that the company has sold bicycle semiconductors directly to TSMC. Industry insiders predict that Honda's order will be produced at TSMC's new Kumamoto plant, which will help boost capacity utilization at the initial stage of mass production.

▲ source: Sony in addition, the report also pointed out that in addition to Honda, Sony Semiconductor, which is a joint venture with TSMC to build a Kumamoto fab, is also a big customer of the plant. But unlike Honda, Sony is not satisfied with TSMC's new Kumamoto plant. TSMC's Kumamoto wafer plant is far from enough to meet Sony's chip needs, Shimizu Shimizu, Sony's president, said at a conference yesterday.

▲ source: Knometa ResearchCTOnews.com saw in a report by chip research institute Knometa Research that Sony is the fifth largest wafer manufacturer in the world in terms of wafer projection equivalent in the Mature field. At present, Sony operates five 12-inch wafer factories in Japan, with a total production capacity about three times that of TSMC's Kumamoto plant.

▲ Touyuan: when TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin presided over the shareholders' meeting in June, Sony said that the establishment of a second fab in Japan was still under evaluation. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that TSMC had given Sony basic information about the second plant, but Sony was still considering whether to invest in it.
