The data show that the Reddit protest reduced the average user usage time by 16% and did not seriously affect website traffic.

CTOnews.com June 25, CTOnews.com reported earlier that Reddit, a well-known American question and answer platform, insisted on charging API, which led to a huge protest on the site and the closure of many discussion sections on the site. But the data actually show that these protests don't seem to have a significant impact on traffic on social media platforms.

David Carr (David Carr), senior insight manager at ▲ Tuyuan PexelsSameweb, said in an email that on the first day of the Reddit protest (June 12), Reddit site traffic dropped by about 5%, from 57.8 million visits to 5430 million, but soon began to pick up again. By June 18, Reddit site traffic data returned to normal, and on June 19, Reddit traffic stabilized at 56.5 million. It is not far from the level on June 12.

▲ source Sameweb David Carr says people don't actually leave Reddit, but "because some of the most interesting content is now inaccessible", the average time people spend on the site has decreased somewhat.

According to Sameweb, users currently spend an average of 7 minutes and 16 seconds a day on Reddit, compared with an average of 8 minutes and 41 seconds in May, a real drop of 16%.

David Carr believes that most of the sub-sections of Reddit have been back online, which does not affect the needs of users, and the protests have given Reddit a considerable amount of traffic, so the traffic of Reddit sites may rise further in the future.
