CTOnews.com, June 26 (Xinhua)-- Tesla launched a recall of some 2023 Model 3 and Model Y cars in the United States because the vehicle's battery isolation device (pyrotechnic battery disconnect) may not work properly.

According to CTOnews.com, the device is used to cut off the connection of high-voltage batteries in case of vehicle collision or battery problems to ensure safety. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall report noted that about 26 vehicles were involved in the recall, of which 2 per cent were expected to be equipped with defective battery isolation devices.

According to NHTSA's safety recall report, Tesla found a battery isolation device that did not work during a verification test on April 20, 2023. Tesla and Joyson Security Systems, the supplier of the device, launched an investigation on April 26.

By the end of May, Tesla and Joyson completed the investigation and found that there was a loophole in the traceability system of the original supplier, resulting in the defective battery isolation device discovered on April 20 being mistakenly sent to Tesla. Tesla subsequently conducted a risk assessment and voluntarily launched a recall process to address the problem. At present, Tesla has not received any warranty applications or fault reports related to this issue.

As the recall involves hardware problems, Tesla cannot fix it through OTA software updates. Tesla said it would replace the battery isolation devices for the affected vehicles free of charge.
