CTOnews.com, June 27 (Xinhua)-- Amazon yesterday officially launched a program that has been piloting since 2020, paying small business owners to complete the "last kilometer" delivery to safely and accurately deliver packages to customers' doorstep.

The program, called Amazon Hub Delivery, will operate in 23 states, focusing on rural areas and big cities, including Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Hoboken, New Jersey.

Small businesses do not need delivery experience to apply for the program. But Amazon says participating companies need to ensure that they can use existing employees and vehicles to receive parcels every day and store them in a safe area until delivery begins.

The exact compensation is not disclosed, but Amazon estimates that small businesses can earn up to $27000 a year through delivery (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 195000 yuan). If a company delivers 30 packages a day (Amazon says this is the average number of packages sent to participating companies per day), the cost of each package is about $2.50 (currently about 18 yuan).

Amazon says it is interested in working with florists, coffee shops, boutiques, gas stations, plumbers and hair salons, but will also consider other companies. Amazon hopes to work with 2500 small businesses by the end of 2023, and there are currently more than 33 million small businesses in the United States, according to the small Business Administration.
