The Telegram team says it won't break the existing user experience, and the feature will be placed in the expansion bar at the top of the chat list so that it can be easily accessed without taking up valuable space.

If users don't want to see stories posted by a contact, they can choose to hide them. You can set it in the Hidden list in the contacts option.
