NASA perseverance rover found a strange rock, like a doughnut
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for the delivery of clues on the way! CTOnews.com, June 28 (Xinhua)-- the NASA Mars rover perseverance has discovered a strange rock on the Red Planet with a hole in its center, like a doughnut.
On Friday (June 23), perseverance took a picture of a large rock with a hole in the middle and other stones of similar color, suggesting that they may have a common origin, and this origin may not be Mars.
The doughnut rock "may be a large meteorite with some small fragments next to it," a representative of the Extraterrestrial Intelligence search (SETI) Institute in Mountain View, Calif., said on Monday.
This is not the first time. Perseverance discovered a meteorite shortly after landing in February 2021, and Curiosity has also found many rocks from space since it landed on Mars in August 2012. including a metallic rock found in February this year, nicknamed Coco.
Nor is it the first pastry-like rock discovered by the Mars rover. In January 2014, NASA's opportunity rover found a white stone on the outside and a red stone on the inside, which the team compared to a jam doughnut.
Perseverance is exploring a 28-mile-diameter Martian crater called Jazelo crater that once had a Great Lake and a river delta billions of years ago. Perseverance is looking for signs of past life in this ancient environment and collecting dozens of samples for future return to Earth.
The dexterity Mars helicopter is assisting perseverance, which has completed 51 flights on Mars.
