Sony SIE CEO Jim Ryan said in a video affidavit filed in court yesterday that he thought Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard was not an exclusive strategy, but an email from Microsoft Xbox head Spencer in August 2022 "sounded an alarm for Sony" and turned his attitude against Activision Blizzard's acquisition.

In the email, Xbox head Spencer only promised Jim Ryan that "Call of Duty and other Activision series will remain on Sony PlayStation platform until 2027."

CTOnews.com found that since Sony and Activision already had a contract that "Call of Duty will be available on Sony PlayStation until 2024," Microsoft's commitment amounted to keeping Call of Duty only on Sony PlayStation for three years.

After receiving this email, Jim Ryan immediately revealed through the game media Games Industry that "Microsoft only guarantees that Call of Duty will stay on Sony PlayStation for 3 years." Microsoft responded quickly, publicly assuring Sony that Call of Duty would be available for a long time, and began signing "10-year contracts" with several cloud game providers and companies including Nintendo.
