Mason stressed: "AI or music that contains AI creation elements are absolutely eligible for Grammy nominations." But Mason also pointed out: "We will not provide Grammy nominations for the AI section."
Mason uses an example to explain this seemingly contradictory statement: if AI or a voice modeling program acts as the lead singer in a human-created song, the track will qualify for nomination in the songwriting category, but not in the performance category, because "it's not human." On the contrary, if a song is performed by a live person in a recording studio and they have completed all the performances, but AI has created the lyrics or music, then the song will not be eligible for nomination in the songwriting category.

Mason said in an interview that it is not clear how much role AI played in the song, so it is impossible to determine whether the song can be nominated. But Mason said: "people are using AI to create music, and I expect AI to appear in a lot of records and songs this year, so I'm sure there will be some nominations for works with AI elements."
