20-story NASA Endeavour spacecraft to be transformed into a museum

CTOnews.com, July 7 (Xinhua)-- the California Science Center recently issued a press release announcing that it will launch the "Go for Stack" process on July 20 to move, install and display key components of the space shuttle Endeavour for future public display at the 20-story Samuel Osing Aerospace Center.

The last launch of the space shuttle Endeavour took place on May 16, 2011, when NASA installed two rear skirt plates (the base of a solid rocket booster), marking a milestone in the first phase of Go for Stack and laying the foundation for the subsequent installation of the entire space shuttle.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that upon completion, the Endeavour orbiter (the first mission with the space shuttle program in 1992), the rocket's solid booster and external fuel tanks will be on display.

When completed, the 20-story vertical display system will be the only "quasi-launch" space shuttle system in the world to provide a demonstration.

"Endeavour will be a star attraction for the Samuel Ochin Aerospace Center, a launch pad for creativity and innovation that will inspire future generations of scientists, engineers and explorers," Jeff Jeff Rudolph, president and chief executive of the California Science Center, said in a statement.
