CTOnews.com July 9, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently released a report saying that global semiconductor industry sales in May 2023 were $40.7 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 294.261 billion yuan), up 1.7% from $40 billion in April 2023, but down 21.1% from $51.7 billion in May 2022.

Figure source: Nvidia's monthly sales data are provided and compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, covering 99% of US semiconductor companies and nearly 2/3 of non-US chip companies worldwide.

John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA, said: "despite the continuing market downturn compared with 2022, global semiconductor sales rose slightly for the third month in a row in May, sparking optimism that the market could rebound in the second half of the year.

Subdivided into countries and regions, sales in most regions have increased to varying degrees month-on-month in May this year. CTOnews.com attached some information as follows:

China grew 3.9% month on month, down 29.5% from the same period last year.

Asia-Pacific / all other regions grew 1.3% month-on-month, down 23.0% from a year earlier.

Japan grew 0.4% month-on-month, down 5.5% from the same period last year.

The Americas increased by 0.1% month-on-month, down 22.6% from the same period last year.

Europe grew 5.9% year-on-year
