CTOnews.com, July 10 (Xinhua) Volkswagen previously used ArgoAI to develop self-driving cars in its own cars, but because of obstacles in its development, Volkswagen said last year that it had abandoned ArgoAI to cooperate with other companies in self-driving.

It is reported that ArgoAI was founded in 2016 to develop on-board hardware and software, high-precision maps and cloud devices for self-driving cars. The company received $3.6 billion from Volkswagen and Ford between 2017 and 2020, but Volkswagen decided in October last year to end its investment in ArgoAI and dissolve ArgoAI on the spot.

Volkswagen has set up a team called VolkswagenGroupofAmerica (VWGoA) to lead the business and will initially deploy 10 self-driving cars in Austin, Texas. Volkswagen said it expected to deploy self-driving test fleets in at least three other US cities over the next three years and launch commercial self-driving cars in 2026.
