CTOnews.com, July 11 (Reuters)-US online retail giant Amazon has posed a legal challenge to the European Union to include it as a "super-large online platform" subject to strict online content rules, saying that if other large retailers in the EU are not also marked as "super-large online platforms" (VLOP), then this is an unfair distinction to Amazon.

"We agree with the European Commission's objectives and are committed to protecting consumers from illegal products and content, but Amazon does not meet DSA's description of a 'very large online platform' (VLOP) and should not be designated as such," Amazon said in an emailed statement.

Amazon has asked the Luxembourg General Court of Europe's second highest court to revoke its designation as a "very large online platform" (VLOP) under the Digital Services Act.

The European Union's Digital Services Act (Digital Services Act) is a law aimed at regulating Internet companies and will regulate them to varying degrees according to their size and influence. CTOnews.com noted that under the Digital Services Act, digital service providers are required to delete illegal content such as hate speech on their online platforms within 24 hours, and that online shopping platforms are obliged to check the authenticity of suppliers' goods in order to reduce the occurrence of counterfeit products.
