The report says global music streaming increased by more than 30% in the first half of the year, and non-English music was popular.

CTOnews.com, July 12 (Xinhua)-- according to the Associated Press, a mid-year report released by data analysis firm Luminate recently showed that global music streaming increased by 30.8 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year, reflecting the increasing internationalization of the music market.

In addition, Luminate found that 2/5 (40%) of American music listeners prefer non-English music, while 69% of American music listeners like the music of artists outside the United States.

Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German and Arabic are the most popular non-English music languages among US music listeners, with Latin and Korean pop music (CTOnews.com Note: K-Pop) taking the lead, the report said.

Jaim Marconette, senior director of Luminate, said: "specifically, our streaming data show that Spanish and Korean music are the most popular among the 10000 most streamed songs in the first half of 2023. In addition, the share of Spanish music in the top 10000 songs has increased by 3.6% since 2021, while the share of English music has fallen by 4.2% over the same period."

The Luminate report also estimates that South Korean pop music fans are 69 per cent more likely to buy vinyl records and 46 per cent more likely to buy CD than the average US music audience in the next 12 months. The report shows that 1/4 of Korean pop fans have purchased tapes in the past 12 months.
