A road in France will be equipped with a wireless charging system so that electric vehicles can be charged in real time as they pass through.

CTOnews.com, July 13, Israeli company Electreon Wireless announced on July 12 local time the installation of a wireless charging system for a main road southwest of Paris, France, so that electric vehicles equipped with receiving devices can be charged in real time as they pass through.

Electreon's Wireless Electric Road system (Wireless Electric Road System,ERS) will work with European toll road operator VINCI to build a wireless charging road on the A10 highway southwest of Paris. Electreon will install a two-kilometer dynamic wireless charging road and a static wireless charging station for all types of electric vehicles. The technology can recharge electric vehicles when they are running or stopping, which helps to eliminate range anxiety and reduce the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles.

The initial phase of the project will focus on charging commercial electric fleets while driving, with the ultimate goal of deploying ERS on all major roads in France to achieve decarbonization in the passenger and cargo transport, heavy truck industry, and to support seamless charging of all types of electric vehicles while driving on French open highways.

CTOnews.com notes that a study released by the French Ministry of Transport in 2021 concluded that road freight emissions could be reduced by 86 per cent if ERS was deployed on a large scale. Without ERS, electric heavy trucks would have to be equipped with very large batteries and stop at high-power charging stations to recharge. In addition, the study also puts forward the goal of deploying more than 5000 km of electric road system in France by 2030 and nearly 9000 km by 2035. Highlight the technology as an important part of achieving zero road emissions, focusing on the freight and heavy truck industry.
