CTOnews.com July 17, Microsoft announced that it will launch a new Xbox Game Pass Core subscription service in September to replace Xbox Live Gold. The new service will include support for Xbox online multiplayer games, discounts and more than 25 selected subscription games, including War Machine 5, Horizon 4 and schizophrenic 2.

Existing Xbox Live Gold gold members will be automatically converted to Xbox Game Pass Core on September 14 at the same price of $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year. With the launch of the new subscription service, Microsoft will stop "Gold member Free Games" on Sept. 1, which allows Xbox players to get free games and add them to their content libraries every month for the past decade. Previously exchanged Xbox 360 games can be kept permanently in the library, but Xbox One games need to be continuously subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate before they can be used.

More than 25 games offered by Microsoft in Game Pass Core are designed to replace "Gold member Free Games," and Microsoft says it will add two to three new games a year.

The above game catalog is much smaller than the full Xbox Game Pass subscription ($10.99 per month), and Microsoft today confirmed only 19 games on the starting list:

Although Xbox Game Pass Core includes online multiplayer games, the more expensive regular Xbox Game Pass does not.

Microsoft renamed Xbox Live to Xbox Network in 2021, but retained the name Xbox Live Gold. Microsoft then tried to double the cost of an one-year Xbox Live Gold subscription, a move that caused resentment among Xbox fans. Microsoft quickly reversed the decision and promised to remove the payment barrier for free multiplayer games.

Microsoft raised its overall monthly Xbox Game Pass fee a few weeks ago, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has risen from $14.99 to $16.99 a month (Euro 14.99 / pound 12.99). The basic Xbox Game Pass for Console price also rose from $9.99 to $10.99 per month (EUR 10.99 / GBP 8.99). Microsoft has not changed the price of PC Game Pass.
