Effective next year, FCC Standard Smart device Safety Standard in the United States
CTOnews.com, July 19 (Xinhua)-- the White House recently approved the "Cyber Trust Mark" plan put forward by FCC, which aims to help consumers choose safer smart devices.
FCC said it would voluntarily invite manufacturers to join, and after joining, it would put a special label on the smart device, indicating that the device was certified for security, thereby increasing the attractiveness of the product and increasing sales.
CTOnews.com Note: the "smart. Cyber Trust Mark" program applies to a variety of smart devices, including smart refrigerators, smart microwave ovens, smart TVs, smart climate control systems, intelligent fitness trackers and so on.
If manufacturers want to join the program, they need to make their products meet the standards issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These standards include the use of strong default passwords, strong data protection, software updates, and event detection.
FCC is planning to build a QR code system and associate it with the US National Registration Information system, so that users can learn about the security information of smart devices by scanning the code and other ways.
