One of the largest solar parks in Latin America has reached maximum power generation capacity, and photovoltaic modules are provided by Chinese enterprises.

CTOnews.com July 19, Vale recently announced that its Sol Do Cerrado (Serrado Sunshine) solar park in Jaiba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, has reached its maximum power generation capacity. The photovoltaic modules and spare parts for the project are provided by Chinese company Jingke Energy, which is one of the representative cooperation projects between China and Brazil in combating climate change and achieving net zero emissions.

According to the official website of ▲, the company has recently received approval from Brazil's State electricity Agency (ANEEL), and the last of the 17 photovoltaic plants in the park has been approved for commercial operation. Sol Do Cerrado is one of the largest solar parks in Latin America, with a peak installed capacity of 766 megawatts (MWp), equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a city of 800000 residents.

Vale said that the total investment in the project was about 3 billion Brazilian reais (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 4.502 billion yuan). When the park is operating at full capacity, it will supply Brazil's Vale with 16 per cent of its total energy consumption, while reducing the company's annual emissions of 134000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, equivalent to about 100000 compact cars.

The project covers about 1300 football fields, has 1.4 million solar panels and is equipped with a system that automatically tracks the sun's movements during the day to make more use of the sun's rays to generate electricity. At the peak of construction in 2021-2023, the park created about 3000 jobs, of which nearly 50 per cent were local workers and 16 per cent were women.

Vale also said that the project included a 15-kilometer-long transmission line with a voltage of 230000 volts that could transmit electricity directly to Brazil's national grid interconnection system.
