With the comprehensive and orderly opening of WeChat Pay's merchant network, Tencent enhances the domestic mobile payment experience of overseas users.
In order to further enhance the mobile payment experience of overseas users in China, Tencent has deepened cooperation with Visa, Discover Global Network (including Diners Club), JCB, Mastercard and other international card organizations. Recently, Tencent has comprehensively and orderly opened the WeChat Pay merchant network in various cities within the territory to support merchants in catering, transportation, merchant shopping, wine travel and other fields, as well as code scan, sweep, WeChat Mini Programs, In-APP payment methods, and constantly expand the consumption scene. In 2019, WeChat Pay already supported binding of international credit cards and supported some pilot businesses in areas such as clothing, food, housing and transportation to spend.
After the opening of WeChat Pay's merchant network this time, immigrants have opened WeChat Pay through passports, permits for Hong Kong and Macao residents travelling to and from the mainland (Home visit permit), Taiwan residents' entry and exit permits (Taiwan permit), Hong Kong and Macao residents' residence permits, and permanent residence cards for foreigners, and tied to international bank cards, they can easily spend money in more than 10 million small and medium-sized businesses. In order to support users' small and high-frequency consumption demand, for international card transactions with a single transaction amount of RMB200 or less, WeChat Pay bears the fees related to international card transactions and is exempt from user transaction fees (specific to the payment page prompt).
Prior to this, the State Council and the National Development and Reform Commission issued guidance and implementation opinions one after another, referring to improving the mobile payment solutions for inbound tourists and improving the convenience of tourists' consumption. it is clearly pointed out that domestic payment service institutions are encouraged to cooperate with overseas card issuers on the premise of compliance with laws and regulations to provide mobile payment services for overseas tourists.
This year, international events such as the Chengdu Universiade and the Hangzhou Asian Games have been held one after another, the number of inbound people has continued to grow, Tencent has opened the WeChat Pay merchant network, and has previously launched measures such as the interconnection of overseas local wallets with the mainland, which will greatly enhance the mobile payment experience of inbound users.
