CTOnews.com, July 23, Silicon Box, headquartered in Singapore, this week opened a new $2 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 14.36 billion yuan) advanced semiconductor manufacturing plant in Singapore, seeking to expand the application of "Chiplet" technology.

The 73000-square-meter factory will be supported by Singapore's Economic Development Commission and create more than 1000 jobs, the start-up, which was founded two years ago, said in a statement.

According to public information, Silicon Box was co-founded by Sehat Sutardja, founder of American chipmaker Marvell, his wife Weili Dai and current CEO BJ Han.

The company specializes in "Chiplet" small chip technology, which can encapsulate sand-sized chips together and can be used in everything from data centers to household appliances.

In recent years, as the cost of chip manufacturing has soared, the global chip industry is increasingly adopting "Chiplet" technology to make transistors small enough to be measured by the number of atoms.

BJ Han, chief executive, said that "customers were already queuing up" even before the plant opened, with a large number of artificial intelligence companies driving demand. They are said to be in talks with Canadian AI start-up Tenstorrent about supply.
