CTOnews.com, July 26 (Xinhua)-- according to a report released by the United Nations, schools around the world are called on to impose campus bans to ban students from using smartphones. The report says the ban can improve classroom chaos, improve students' learning, and help protect children from cyber bullying.

UNESCO, the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural agency, says there is evidence that excessive use of mobility is linked to declining educational performance, and that high levels of screen time have a negative impact on children's emotional stability.

The report makes it clear that existing digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, should always be subordinated to the "people-oriented vision of education" and will never replace face-to-face interaction with teachers.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that UNESCO warned policy makers not to fully embrace digital technology, arguing that the positive impact of digital technology on learning outcomes and economic efficiency was exaggerated and that new technologies were not always the best.

"not all new things are progressive, and we should not fully accept digital technology just because digital technology can bring about some changes," the report concluded.

Audrey Azoulay, director-general of UNESCO, said: "the digital revolution has inestimable potential, but just as people warn about how to regulate the digital revolution in society, the same attention must be paid to the use of digital revolution in education."
