According to news in the morning of July 28, Beijing time, US catering takeout company DoorDash is developing a chat robot "DashAI" based on artificial intelligence technology to further speed up customers' ordering.

With this robot, customers only need to enter some keywords to get personalized takeout recommendations. If this software can be launched smoothly, then DoorDash will also gain a first-mover advantage in the takeout market.

A spokesman for DoorDash did not comment on the new feature. Xu Xun, the company's chief executive, said on an analyst conference call in May that the company was internally testing a variety of takeout experiences.

According to reports, the DashAI chat robot will pop up a message indicating that this is still a test function, and the reply accuracy may not be high. The software code also includes some examples of how consumers use the chat robot:

"can you recommend any restaurants nearby that are highly rated but not expensive?"

"which fast food restaurant can deliver hamburgers? and there are plenty of salad options?"

"where can I find real Asian cuisine? like Chinese food or Thai food."

Last year, with the launch of ChatGPT, a chat writing tool of OpenAI, an American artificial intelligence company, there was a new wave of generative artificial intelligence around the world. So far, companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft and Amazon have begun to scale up aggressively in artificial intelligence, and DoorDash clearly doesn't want to be a spectator of this new wave.

With the introduction of artificial intelligence chat robots, DoorDash can package itself as a more sophisticated catering delivery company, helping the platform maintain a competitive edge in what has become the Red Sea takeout market.

Traditional consumers need to scroll through the menu when buying takeout, while artificial intelligence search and chat services can help users lock in the restaurants and food they want more quickly.

It is reported that in the US catering takeout market, DoorDash already controls 65 per cent of the market share.
