According to the US Patent Office, OpenAI has filed an application for a GPT-5 trademark.

CTOnews.com reported earlier that people in the technology circle led by Musk asked "OpenAI to stop studying GPT-5 research and development for the time being".

However, according to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), OpenAI applied to register the trademark of "GPT-5" on the 18th of last month.

However, OpenAI said at a conference hosted by the Economic Times of India in early June that "we have not yet started training GPT-5, the successor to GPT-4". Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, had previously said, "they still have a lot of work to do before we start training GPT-5. We are studying the new ideas we think are needed, but we are certainly not ready to start."

It is not clear whether OpenAI started GPT-5 training within these two months, so the trademark may only be registered for protective purposes.
