On the afternoon of August 2, Beijing time, Amazon promoted Rohit Prasad to head of the general artificial intelligence team. Prasad has been the chief scientist of Alexa, Amazon's senior vice president and voice assistant. The general artificial intelligence team hopes to develop AI software that can reason and make decisions like people.

Prasad will report directly to Amazon CEO Andy Gassi. Prasad used to report to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, but recently his immediate boss became David Limp, senior vice president of Amazon's equipment division.

It was reported earlier that Prasad would report to CEO, but it was not known at the time what his position was. Amazon said in an email that in the future, Prasad will lead a central team to help Amazon build the most scalable large language model, and AI software developed with this model can understand the common language.
