CTOnews.com August 2, Microsoft Project Manager Jess Krynitsky today posted a blog post announcing that support for TLS 1.0 TLS 1.1 will be disabled by default starting from the Win11 preview release and subsequent Windows system releases in September 2023.

Microsoft says TLS versions 1. 0 and 1. 1 date back to 1999 and 2006, respectively, so there have been a lot of vulnerabilities in the past few years.

Microsoft has added support for TLS 1.2since Win8 and added support for TLS 1.3in Win11 systems.

Internet standards and regulators have abandoned or banned TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 over the past few years due to various security issues.

We have been tracking the usage of the TLS protocol for many years and have now confirmed that the usage data for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 is low enough for action to be taken.

Since the Win11 preview and subsequent Windows system versions released in September 2023, TLS 1.0 and 1.1 has been disabled by default to encourage users to use more secure modern protocols.
