CTOnews.com, Aug. 5 (Xinhua)-- the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to sue Ulrich Kranz, a key figure in Apple's auto program, for violating securities rules when he took the helm of former startup Canoo, Bloomberg reported.

Kranz, who previously worked at BMW for more than 30 years in charge of the Project I electric vehicle project, has led a team that has done a lot of cutting-edge research on the lightweight of electric vehicles, especially BMW's carbon fiber body technology, which was praised by Apple CEO Cook.

In 2018, he co-founded self-driving car startup Kanu Automotive (Canoo), leading the development of key modular vehicle platforms and vehicle architectures for electric vehicles.

In 2021, he announced that he would join Apple, responsible for building a model platform for Apple's car project.

Canoo has struggled to maintain operations since Kranz left the company, but last month successfully delivered three electric vans to NASA that will be used for next year's Artemis mission to the moon.

SEC filed a lawsuit alleging that Kranz provided Canoo with unreasonable income forecasts and lied about his salary.

Foreign science and technology MacRumors reported that Kranz has not been involved in the operation of Kanu since the beginning of 2021, and SEC's goal may be to prevent him from becoming an executive in a future listed company, which may affect his future career at Apple.
