CTOnews.com, August 6 (Xinhua)-- Canon has released MS-500, the world's first camera equipped with a single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensor and one of the most sensitive non-infrared cameras so far, designed for applications such as security monitoring.

With the highest resolution to date, a 1-inch SPAD sensor (3.2 megapixels) and a B4 bayonet, the camera supports a broadcast-grade zoom lens and can take clear color pictures in the night sky as low as 0.001 lux.

Canon MS-500 plans to launch in September, with an official retail price of $25000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 179000 yuan).

It uses a 3. 2 megapixel 1-inch SPAD sensor. By counting and amplifying the particles that reach the pixel, even if a photon enters the pixel, it can instantly multiply to about 1 million times and convert it into a digital signal, with almost no noise.

As the excellent night vision performance of SPAD sensors, combined with broadcast lenses with high vision performance, it is expected to be used for high surveillance purposes.

Canon said the device was designed for "high-security areas such as seaports, public infrastructure and national borders" and, when used in conjunction with Canon's ultra-telephoto broadcast lens, it can even capture "clear color video of themes a few miles away" at night, as well as advanced surveillance such as hull type checks.
