CTOnews.com, August 10, according to the official website of the Trademark Office of the State intellectual property Office, ou'ai Operation Co., Ltd. (OPENAI OPCO, LLC) applied for the registration of two "GPT-5" trademarks late last month, with international classifications of 9 and 42 (scientific instruments, design research), respectively.

CTOnews.com previously reported that according to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), OpenAI had applied to register the trademark of "GPT-5" on the 18th of last month. From the perspective of trademark information, GPT-5 will provide functions such as text generation, natural language understanding, voice transcription, translation, analysis and so on.

OpenAI said at a conference hosted by the Economic Times in early June that "we have not yet started training GPT-5, the successor to GPT-4". Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, said earlier that "they still have a lot of work to do before we start training GPT-5. We are studying the new ideas we think we need, but we are certainly not ready to start."

In addition, OpenAI's GPT-4 model also applied for registration of the corresponding trademark in China in the first half of this year, as well as the "WHISPER" trademark with international classification for website services. (Whisper is a neural network previously released by OpenAI, which officially claims to be close to human level in English speech recognition.)
