CTOnews.com, August 11 (Xinhua)-- Fermi Lab's scientific team said recently that they have found more circumstantial evidence of a fifth force of nature.

At present, the consensus in the industry is that nature is dominated by four basic forces: electromagnetic force, strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force and gravity, and the scientific research team has found that its motion trajectory on μ meson exceeds the prediction of current subatomic physics theory. therefore, it is believed that there is an unknown force acting on μ meson.

On the basis of the conclusions released in 2021, and through the experimental data carried out on the particle accelerator facility, the scientific research team put forward the possibility of the fifth force of nature for the first time.

Dr Brendan Casey, a senior scientist at Fermi Lab, said that over the past two years, we have been eliminating the uncertainty of measurement results and measuring data with unprecedented accuracy.

In the g minus two experiment, the team accelerated subatomic particles called microns on a ring 15 meters in diameter, which cycled about 1000 times at a speed close to the speed of light.

The researchers found that due to the influence of a new force of nature, their behavior may not be explained by the current theory (called the standard model).

The research team said that although there is a lot of circumstantial evidence, it has not yet found direct and conclusive evidence, and the team will continue to carry out research in the hope of making a breakthrough.
