CTOnews.com August 12, Microsoft today issued a press release announcing the release of SQL Server 2022 evaluation version in preview mode for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9 and Ubuntu 22.04.

CTOnews.com note: this evaluation version is limited to 180 days starting from Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Microsoft says it can experience the improvements of SQL Server 2022 on RHEL 9 or the Ubuntu 22.04 release in a development / test environment.

Microsoft says server administrators can add the option to run SQL Server 2022 with SELinux enabled and mandatory mode by installing a new "mssql-server-selinux" package.

The system administrator can install SQL Server 2022 using the previous "mssql-server" package.

Administrators can also get new packages for RHEL 9 and Ubuntu 22.04 as container images. These users can learn more by visiting Microsoft's RHEL 9 and Ubuntu 22.04 support pages.
