CTOnews.com, Aug. 12 (Reuters)-A Ford executive said that by integrating more software into trucks and vans in Ford's high-margin Pro commercial vehicle business, revenue per vehicle is expected to increase by $4000 to $5000.

Navin Kumar, chief financial officer of Ford Pro, said it would seek to increase revenue through software and data-driven fleet services, safety and security services, self-driving of some vehicles and insurance.

Speaking at JPMorgan's investor conference, Mr Kumar said Ford's ability to provide and profit from these services would be enhanced in the middle of the decade, when the company will launch the next generation of electric commercial vehicles with a new digital "smart" platform.

CTOnews.com notes that the "smart" platform will help Ford Pro meet its 2026 goals, including increasing the proportion of connected cars to about 60 per cent and the proportion of cars with paid software to about 36 per cent.

It is understood that Ford Pro will continue to provide a complete portfolio of internal combustion engines, hybrids and pure electric vehicles, and second-generation electric vehicle products, including Fmur150 Lightning pickups, will increase additional software and service revenue.
