Dell Australia exaggerated monitor discount and was heavily fined A $1000.

CTOnews.com, August 14 (Xinhua)-- the Australian subsidiary of Dell Technology Co., Ltd. must pay a fine of A $1000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 47.1 million yuan) to consumers for misleading statements about discounts on computer monitors on its website, the Australian Federal Court ruled on Monday.

This is a lawsuit brought by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) against Dell Australia, and in June this year, a federal court found that Dell Australia made a false statement about the price or discount of the monitor on its website.

"this result sends a strong signal to companies that making false statements about prices or discounts or exaggerating discounts is a serious violation of consumer law and will be severely punished," said Liza Carver, a member of the ACCC.

Dell Australia reportedly sold more than 5300 monitors at exaggerated discounts between August 2019 and December 16, 2021.
