CTOnews.com, Aug. 15 (Xinhua)-- Threads, a new social media app launched by Meta, quickly became popular within weeks of its launch, but then suffered a loss of users and a decline in participation. At the same time, the war of words between Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, and Musk, the boss of X (Twitter), has not stopped.

The number of daily active users of Threads apps fell 79 per cent from 2.3 million in early July to 576000 on August 7, according to Similarweb, a digital intelligence platform. Not only that, CTOnews.com notes, some big American companies, such as fast-food chain Wendy's, clothing store Anthropologie and cosmetics brand Rare Beauty, have also reduced the number of posts posted on Threads.

The Threads app was officially launched on July 5 and attracted 5 million users to sign up that day, and at least 100 million people downloaded the app in less than a week, making it the fastest app to download. However, it seems that the initial excitement has gradually faded. On the busiest day, Threads apps had less than half the users of Twitter, which has an average of more than 100 million active users per day, according to Sametimeweb.

The Threads app aims to take advantage of the chaos that has emerged since Twitter was acquired by Musk to replace Twitter as the most popular text-based social media platform. Since taking over Twitter in October 2022, Musk has laid off most of its staff and introduced a series of controversial policy changes that have led to a decline in advertising revenue. Long-time Twitter users also complain that the platform often breaks down and is full of hatred and vicious remarks.

At the same time, Zuckerberg and Musk quarreled openly and even considered a cage fight this summer. On Sunday, Zuckerberg said on his Threads account that it was time to give up the idea because Musk was not serious.
