The patent is called "folding camera with Mobile Optical Actuator". Apple outlines a variety of methods in the patent and plans to incorporate folding optical elements and lens movement into future iPhone.

CTOnews.com encloses some patented design sketches as follows. In one example, Apple describes a system consisting of two prisms and a lens set with multiple components between the two prisms.

The prism directs the light along the axis to the imaging sensor, while the lens group handles various optical functions. The lens group can be maintained in the internal carrier structure, and the internal carrier structure itself is connected to the external carrier structure. Both structures can be moved, thus reducing the thickness of the lens.

In addition, another case in the patent also introduces a motor actuator, which can move two carriers according to the needs of the shooting scene to achieve automatic focus.

The second and third VCM actuators can be used to shift the internal carrier structure relative to the external carrier structure and improve the stability of the optical image.
